Hydrofilm Sterile Transparent Film Dressing 10 x 12.5 cm - 1 Piece

A single sterile Hartmann Hydrofilm film dressing, 10 x 12.5 cm, supplied in its own sealed sachet. Hydrofilm is a thin, self-adhesive polyurethane film used in hospitals to cover surgical and primary-healing wounds and to secure cannulas and catheters.

What it is used for

• Protection against bacterial penetration, external contaminants and mechanical irritation
• Dry or slightly exuding primary-healing wounds, and almost-healed epithelising wounds

• Securing wound dressings, catheters and cannulas (by a healthcare professional)
• As a sealing element on intact skin in negative-pressure wound therapy with the Vivano system (by a healthcare professional)

How to Use

Clean and dry the wound and the surrounding skin. Open the sterile sachet, peel back the backing, and position the film over the wound with about 2 cm of skin contact on each side. Smooth it down from the centre outwards to remove air bubbles. Do not stretch the film as you apply it, as this lifts the edges and breaks the seal. Hydrofilm can stay in place for up to 5 days; a new dressing may be applied immediately afterwards, and total wear time should not exceed 30 days.

Precautions

• Sterile (ethylene-oxide sterilised) and single-use. Do not re-use and do not re-sterilise
• Do not use if the sachet is damaged or the expiry date has passed. Store dry
• Not for clinically infected wounds, or heavily bleeding or heavily secreting wounds
• For dry or slightly exuding wounds. For a wound that needs absorbency, use Hydrofilm Plus, which has an absorbent pad
• Stop and consult a doctor if signs of infection appear, such as increasing redness, warmth, pus or fever

Good to know

Why a transparent dressing? The wound can be checked for redness, swelling or signs of infection without taking the dressing off, which keeps the wound undisturbed. That matters for post-surgical care and for IV sites.

How is it different from an ordinary plaster? Hydrofilm is a thin polyurethane film rather than a fabric or plastic strip. It is waterproof, breathable, transparent and sterile, and it is used in hospitals both on surgical wounds and as a cannula cover where protection and visibility are both needed.

How long can it stay on? Up to 5 days, depending on the state of the wound. Replace it if it lifts at the edges or if signs of infection appear.
